Juventino Lopez Reyes Sterling Silver Candlesticks — Mexico City, Mid-20th Century
A pair of solid sterling silver candlesticks by Mexican silversmith Juventino Lopez Reyes, crafted in Mexico City during the mid-20th century. Each candlestick bears the conjoined “JLR” maker's mark, alongside “0.925” and “STERLING”, confirming their authenticity and silver purity.
Juventino Lopez Reyes (born 1915) was a prominent figure in Mexican silver artistry, celebrated for his superb designs and quality craftsmanship. In 1935, he established his own workshop, Platería del Recreo, which became known for producing elegant and functional silver pieces that epitomized mid-century modern design principles. His works are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of fine silverware.
These candlesticks exhibit a refined aesthetic with flared tulip-shaped tops and baluster stems, reflecting the modernist influences characteristic of Reyes' designs. Their balanced proportions and polished surfaces make them a timeless addition to any interior setting or silver collection.
Condition
In excellent condition, with minimal signs of wear. Some wax residue is present from previous use, and the surfaces display minor scuffs consistent with age. Notably, there are no dents or structural imperfections. The decision to polish has been left to the buyer's discretion to maintain the original patina.
