Mid-Century Rosewood Grandfather Clock – Franz Hermle 1151-050, Triple Chime
A mid-century rosewood grandfather clock, crafted by Far Eastern Furnishings Co., Hong Kong, and powered by a precision Franz Hermle 1151-050 movement, made in Western Germany in 1976. This elegant timepiece combines timeless European mechanics with sculptural Asian craftsmanship, embodying the warm sophistication of mid-century design.
The solid rosewood cabinet features a rich, reddish finish and a classic swan’s neck pediment with turned finials. Fluted columns with carved acanthus leaf capitals frame the clock face. The case assembles without hardware, using gravity-fit modular sections.
The ornate brass and silvered dial features Roman numerals, decorative spandrels, and a “Tempus Fugit” banner. The mechanical Hermle 1151-050 movement plays Westminster, Whittington, and St. Michael chimes on the quarter hour and includes a silent mode. The selector lever moves smoothly, currently favoring Westminster. Three polished brass weights and a pendulum complete the traditional aesthetic.
