Antique Washington Bowlback Mandolin — 8-String, w/ Case
This early 20th-century 8-string mandolin is labeled "The Genuine Washington Fully Warranted" on the headstock—a mark associated with instruments distributed by J.W. Jenkins & Sons of Kansas City, Missouri. Featuring a classic bowlback body made from alternating staves of rosewood, mahogany, and satinwood, the mandolin highlights elegant craftsmanship. The spruce soundboard is accented with fine inlay and an ornate faux tortoiseshell pickguard with floral scroll detailing.
This example includes its original felt-lined case with leather handle and a vintage Gretsch #4 medium guitar pick tucked inside—a charming period accessory. While the instrument shows signs of wear and age, it remains a striking historical piece for collectors or as a decorative display.
Condition
In fair condition with moderate surface wear, scratches, and visible cracks to the neck and body. Tuners present but untested. Case shows discoloration, fraying, and a torn leather handle. Please review photos for full details.
