Antique Victorian Cast Iron Garden Bench & Chair – Grapevine Motif
A highly decorative antique cast iron garden bench and chair set, featuring an ornate grapevine and leaf motif characteristic of late 19th-century Victorian design. These pieces reflect the era’s fascination with natural themes and ornamental craftsmanship, symbolizing abundance and leisurely outdoor living.
The intricate openwork—showcasing grape clusters, curling vines, and stylized foliage—is both artistic and functional, allowing rainwater to pass through and reducing rust buildup. Likely produced in the U.S., possibly by a foundry like M. Briggs of Rochester, NY, although unmarked. The forms include a gracefully curved bench and a matching armchair, both with pierced seats and scrolled paw feet.
An excellent candidate for restoration, this set is structurally solid and complete, with no breaks in the cast iron. A standout display piece for vintage garden décor or historic property settings.
Condition:
Fair overall with visible signs of age and prolonged outdoor use. Surface corrosion, chipped paint, and finish wear are present throughout. The bench’s front right leg is slightly loose and may require tightening. Despite weathering, both pieces are sturdy, and the castings remain intact with no breaks—making them ideal for restoration.
