Victorian Cast Iron Garden Bench – Grapevine Motif, Ornate Feet
A sculptural antique Victorian cast iron garden bench, featuring a richly detailed grapevine and leaf motif across the entire backrest, seat, and legs. Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, this piece exemplifies the period’s fascination with natural forms and decorative castings, commonly used in formal gardens and conservatories.
The openwork design includes clusters of grapes, twisting vines, and broad leaves, paired with dramatic cabriole legs ending in stylized paw feet. The bench’s gently curved shape and flared arms create an elegant silhouette. Likely American-made, possibly in the manner of foundries such as M. Briggs, though unmarked.
Condition:
Fair condition with finish wear, surface corrosion, and visible rust throughout, particularly on the legs and seat base. The paint is chipped and uneven from extended outdoor exposure, but the piece is solid and complete with no breaks in the cast iron. A strong candidate for restoration.
