Philco Model 46-1203 AM Radio & Record Player – For Restoration
Offered for restoration is a vintage Philco Model 46-1203, a combined AM radio and phonograph unit produced in 1946. This tabletop model reflects the bold, streamlined styling of postwar American design with its rounded wood cabinet, horizontal grille slats, and vertically oriented tuning dial. The unit was originally equipped to play 78 RPM records and includes a built-in automatic record changer under the hinged lid.
The tuning scale ranges from 55 to 160 kHz, and the control panel features original knobs labeled “Dial Tuning,” “Tone,” and “On-Off Volume.” The phonograph arm and platter are present, though untested. Internal chassis markings include:
– Model 46-1203
– Part #10641E, W14909, 32-4005
– Serial: 56-2861
– Code 121
The radio utilizes six vacuum tubes: 7C7, 7A8, 7B7, 7C6, 35L6GT, and 50X6, and was originally designed for 115V AC operation at 30 watts. These units are known for their warm sound and sturdy build, and are highly collectible among vintage electronics enthusiasts.
Condition:
Fair condition overall and offered untested, for restoration. The cabinet shows surface wear, edge scuffing, and a burn mark on the top rear corner. The speaker grille fabric is aged and torn (approx. ½"). The power cord insulation is cracked throughout and should be replaced prior to any testing. Phonograph and radio functions have not been evaluated. Please review photos carefully for detailed condition.
