Daniel Quam Zuni Mountain Lion Fetish — Serpentine, Turquoise Eyes (Signed)
Authentic Zuni mountain lion fetish carved and signed by Daniel Quam, a celebrated member of the Quam family of renowned Zuni carvers. Executed in richly veined green serpentine, this dynamic figure features a crouched, aggressive stance with turquoise inlaid eyes, bared teeth, and defined paws — a hallmark of Quam’s lifelike style.
Daniel Quam is noted for introducing highly realistic and expressive detail into Zuni fetish carving, often depicting traditional guardian animals such as this mountain lion, known as Toho. In Zuni belief, the mountain lion is the guardian of the North, symbolizing protection, leadership, and resilience. Quam’s fetishes are highly collectible and valued for their craftsmanship and spiritual symbolism.
This piece is signed “Daniel Quam Zuni” on the underside, affirming its authenticity. Despite some condition wear, it remains a desirable collector’s piece with powerful presence.
