Zuni Bear Fetish — Jet, Turquoise Eyes, Coral & Arrowhead Offering, Unsigned
This unsigned Zuni bear fetish is expertly carved from jet, a fossilized black lignite prized for its light weight and smooth, polishable surface. The bear features inlaid turquoise eyes—symbols of protection and clarity in Zuni tradition. Across its back is a sacred offering bundle secured with sinew, composed of a stone arrowhead, turquoise, coral, shell, and brown stone beads. These elements enhance the fetish's spiritual power, honoring the bear as a guardian and healer.
In Zuni culture, the bear is considered the Guardian of the West, representing strength, introspection, and protection. Jet is believed to offer grounding energy, while turquoise and coral are sacred stones promoting health and spiritual balance. Though unsigned, this piece reflects the deep symbolism and craftsmanship associated with authentic Zuni artistry. A meaningful addition to any Native American fetish or Southwestern art collection.
Condition:
In good condition with some wear. The arrowhead in the offering bundle is chipped, but the jet carving remains intact with no cracks or structural damage. Light surface marks are consistent with age and handling.
