Description

Rosemary McKeown Copper Turtle Art — Hand Painted, Framed, Turquoise Eyes

Original copper turtle sculpture by New Mexico-based artist Rosemary McKeown, presented in a matted shadow box frame with UV-protective glass. This unique, dimensional wall piece showcases hand-hammered copper with vibrant enamel inlays in deep cobalt blue, green, and black. Stylized geometric motifs and turquoise-colored eyes add distinctive Southwestern character. Though unsigned, the artist’s business card is affixed to the verso, affirming authenticity.

A striking decorative object that reflects McKeown’s signature use of copper and bold color, this piece beautifully bridges folk, modern, and regional styles. Ideal for collectors of Southwestern art or anyone seeking a one-of-a-kind accent.

Artist Biography:
Rosemary McKeown is a multidisciplinary artist based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, best known for her richly textured oil paintings and handcrafted jewelry. Deeply inspired by the desert landscape of the Southwest, McKeown incorporates natural materials like copper, silver, and turquoise into her work. She studied for over a decade under artist Joe Ireland and is a member of the Artists of Picacho Hills collective. Her pieces are regularly featured in regional exhibitions, including the celebrated “Art in the Garden” and “For the Love of Art Month” studio tours. This sculpture reflects her talent for combining metalwork with painterly detail.

Condition:
In excellent condition overall. The artwork is clean, and the copper and enamel finishes are vibrant with no visible flaws. The paper backing has light staining but does not affect display. Frame and UV glass are intact and present well. Please refer to photos for full details.
