Mata Ortiz Black-on-Black Pottery Olla — Incised Design, 6.5" Dia
Elegant black-on-black pottery olla from Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico. This hand-coiled piece showcases the refined craftsmanship associated with the modern Mata Ortiz ceramic movement, inspired by ancient Paquimé traditions. The burnished surface contrasts with matte-incised geometric and avian motifs, wrapping fluidly around the rounded form. Although unsigned, the piece reflects the stylistic lineage of Juan Quezada and his contemporaries, known for innovative takes on traditional forms. A visually striking accent for collectors of Southwestern or contemporary indigenous ceramics.
Condition:
In good condition, with surface wear and visible scuffing throughout the design. No structural damage noted. The incised motifs remain clear, and the piece retains an attractive sheen despite signs of handling.
Dimensions:
Height: 6 inches
Diameter: 6.5 inches
