Pair of Vintage Tlaquepaque Terracotta Hen-on-Nest Casserole Dishes
Offered here is a delightful pair of hand-painted terracotta casserole dishes in the form of hens, made in the Tlaquepaque tradition of Mexican folk pottery. Each dish features a lidded hen seated on a woven-style nest base, richly glazed in vibrant earth tones and decorative striping. The smaller piece is marked “Mexico” on the underside, affirming origin. These sculptural casseroles capture the charm and whimsy of mid-century Mexican ceramics and are both decorative and functional. A colorful addition to any folk art, kitchenware, or majolica collection.
Condition:
In fair condition, with age-appropriate surface wear including finish loss, glaze chips, and scattered minor nicks. Despite the wear, both pieces display well with strong color and form. Please see photos for full visual details.
