Hopi Corn Dancer Kachina by H. Talayumptewa, 1990 – Carved Cottonwood, Signed
A finely carved Hopi Corn Dancer Kachina, signed H. Talayumptewa and dated 1990 on the underside. Executed in the traditional form, this figure is carved from a single piece of cottonwood root and hand-painted in earth-toned pigments with geometric precision. The stylized mask features a pronounced snout, red ground with black linear accents, and a painted feather crest, all emblematic of ceremonial dress.
The Corn Dancer (Ka’e) represents prayers for growth, rain, and agricultural abundance—central themes in Hopi ceremonial life. The figure wears a painted kilt with stepped motifs and a symbolic sash, rendered with refined attention to symmetry and color.
A well-balanced and culturally rooted example by a known Hopi carver, suitable for discerning collectors of Native American art, Southwest ethnographic material, or signed Kachina figures from the late 20th century.

In good condition overall, with minor surface wear consistent with age and handling. No chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Paintwork remains strong and signature is clearly legible.
