Victorian Betjemann’s Tantalus — Mahogany Case with 3 Glass Decanters
A late Victorian-era tantalus featuring a mahogany frame and silver-plated locking bar, stamped “Betjemann’s Patent 67329 London” beneath a crown hallmark. This patented design, attributed to George Betjemann & Sons, dates to the late 19th to early 20th century and was intended to keep decanters secured from unauthorized use. The handle is engraved “HAW,” likely the initials of the original owner. While the three glass decanters are later replacements, they fit neatly in the original compartments and feature rounded stoppers with rubber gaskets that seal well. A classic and functional bar accessory with strong display presence and collector appeal.
Condition:
Good condition with some surface wear to the wood and plating consistent with age. No key is present and the decanters are later replacements. The case is structurally sound, and the decanter gaskets seal well. Offered as shown.
Dimensions:
Overall: 11.5" x 13.25" x 4.5"
