Authentic Apache Burden Basket Trio with Leather Fringe and Tin Cones
Authentic Apache Burden Basket Trio with Leather Fringe and Tin Cones
This set comprises three handcrafted Apache burden baskets, each exemplifying traditional artistry and functionality. Historically, Apache women utilized such conical baskets to gather firewood, roots, and berries, integral to their nomadic lifestyle.
Each basket is woven from natural fibers, featuring a cone-shaped design with flat or rounded bottoms. The rims are wrapped in buckskin, from which leather fringes adorned with tin cones gracefully descend. These tin adornments historically served to ward off snakes during gathering expeditions and to signal the presence of one's mother-in-law, as per cultural customs.
The trio varies in size, offering versatility for both decorative and functional applications. Their authentic design makes them suitable for wall displays or as hanging accent pieces, adding a touch of Southwestern heritage to any space. These baskets are not only decorative but also hold cultural significance, symbolizing the resilience and traditions of the Apache people.
