Eva Histia Acoma Pueblo Wedding Vase – Hand-Coiled with Stylized Bird Motif, Signed
This Acoma Pueblo wedding vase is a creation by Eva Histia (1914–2005), one of the matriarchs of Acoma pottery. Signed “E.H. Acoma N. Mex.”, this piece reflects Histia’s legacy as a pioneer in traditional Acoma ceramic artistry, a craft she began practicing as early as 1922. Known for her precision and deep respect for cultural traditions, Histia’s work is highly regarded by collectors and institutions alike.
Entirely hand-coiled and traditionally fired, this vase features a distinctive braided handle, symbolizing unity and the sacred bond of marriage in Pueblo culture. The vessel is adorned with bold, stylized bird motifs—an iconic element in Acoma pottery—rendered in black and terracotta on a natural white clay background. The geometric patterns are balanced and fluid, showcasing Histia’s refined technique and connection to ancestral symbolism.
