Description

Emmalita C. Chino Acoma Pueblo Pottery Jar – Geometric Design, Signed

This beautifully handcrafted pottery jar is a remarkable creation by Emmalita C. Chino (signed E. Chino), an esteemed Acoma Pueblo artist active since 1942. Born in 1931, Chino is celebrated for her dedication to traditional Acoma ceramic techniques, passed down through her lineage. She is the daughter of Margaret Charlie, daughter-in-law of the renowned potter Marie Z. Chino, and has continued her family’s artistic legacy with distinction.

This traditional jar features a striking geometric design, showcasing the hallmark precision and artistry for which Acoma pottery is renowned. The piece is painted in bold black and terracotta hues, highlighted by a vivid turquoise band encircling the upper section. Intricate patterns of abstract feathers, stair-step motifs, and dynamic angular forms adorn the surface, embodying deep cultural symbolism tied to nature, spirituality, and the ancestral heritage of the Acoma people.

Expertly coiled and hand-painted, this jar reflects Chino’s masterful craftsmanship and profound respect for her cultural traditions. The signature "E. Chino" is clearly visible on the base, underscoring its authenticity and collectible value.
