Description

Tlaquepaque Hand-Painted Covered Dish – Iridescent Glaze, Folk Art Scene, Made in Mexico
This vintage Tlaquepaque ceramic covered dish from Mexico showcases classic Mexican folk art craftsmanship. Hand-painted with vibrant pastoral scenes, it features charming depictions of rural life, including farmers, donkeys, native flora, and playful animals against a backdrop of rustic landscapes. The piece is finished with a signature iridescent blue glaze that adds a subtle, shimmering quality. The lid features an integrated handle for easy lifting, while the dish’s hand-thrown construction highlights traditional artisanal techniques.

Condition:
In fair condition, showing signs of age and use. There is noticeable finish wear, several chips on the inner rim (the largest measuring approximately 0.5 inches), a 1.5-inch hairline crack, and overall crazing typical for pottery of this era. The original handles are absent but have been carefully ground down and finished to match the glaze, preserving the dish's aesthetic appeal.

Dimensions:
Overall with lid: 7" x 15.5" x 10.5". (Please note: soup can in photo for scale reference only.)
