Description

George & Georgene Garrett Santa Clara-Style Black-On-Black Pottery Vase – 1990

This black-on-black pottery vase, signed G G 1990 by George & Georgene Garrett, is a fine example of their Santa Clara-style ceramic artistry. The piece features a smoothly rounded form with a slightly flared rim, decorated with incised geometric motifs that contrast against the highly polished black surface.

George & Georgene Garrett were skilled potters based in Phoenix, Arizona, known for their dedication to creating pottery in the style of traditional Santa Clara Pueblo blackware. While not Native American artists themselves, their work pays homage to the revered techniques of Santa Clara artisans. The Garretts' pieces from the 1980s and 1990s are known for their craftsmanship, featuring the classic matte and polished black-on-black designs. Their pottery has appeared in auctions and private collections, making this vase a desirable addition for collectors of Native American-inspired ceramics.

The base is signed "G G 1990", confirming its authenticity and date of creation.
