1890s Etruscan Majolica Shell & Seaweed Pitcher – Griffen, Smith & Hill
1890s Etruscan Majolica Shell & Seaweed Pitcher – Griffen, Smith & Hill
This antique Etruscan Majolica pitcher, crafted by Griffen, Smith & Hill in the late 19th century, showcases the beloved Shell & Seaweed pattern. Featuring raised scallop shells and flowing seaweed against a rippled background, this piece is a fine example of American Majolica craftsmanship. The pitcher is beautifully glazed in shades of green, brown, and blue, with a deep mauve interior. The handle is molded in a naturalistic branch form, adding to its organic appeal. The bottom bears the maker's mark, “Etruscan Majolica,” with the impressed code “E20.”
A wonderful collectible for Victorian Majolica enthusiasts or those who appreciate fine antique ceramics.

Fair. Showing signs of use consistent with its age of over 130 years. There is crazing throughout, typical of antique majolica, along with wear to the glaze. Notably, there are three chips around the top rim (approximately 0.5" and 0.25" in size), which appear aged and blend into the overall patina of the piece.
