Description

1914 Moonlit Landscape Oil Painting by Catherine Lard

A moonlit landscape oil painting on board by Catherine Lard, created circa 1914. This atmospheric artwork captures a serene nighttime scene with a glowing full moon casting light over a woodland waterway. The reflection of the moon shimmers on the water's surface, accompanied by a rustic cabin with warmly lit windows and a red canoe moored along the shore. Signed by the artist in the lower left corner and again on the verso, this vintage piece is elegantly framed without glass in a wooden frame with green accents, adding to its timeless aesthetic.

Condition:
Good vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. Small 1/8" tear in the lower right corner of the artwork. The frame shows scuffs and signs of wear, complementing its antique character.

Dimensions:

  • Overall: 19 x 11 inches (48.3 x 27.9 cm)
  • Visible (Sight): 17 x 9 inches (43.2 x 22.9 cm)

Provenance:
Handwritten notes on the verso identify the artist as Catherine Lard (b. July 15, 1896) and date the painting to approximately 1914.
