Kowalski" on the verso, this piece reflects the artist's dedication to traditional religious folk art. Kowalski, based in Deming, New Mexico, is well known for his intricate carvings and vibrant hand-painted religious artworks crafted from locally sourced Ponderosa pine. His work has been featured in New Mexico Magazine, and has been collected by prestigious figures and institutions, including the Franciscans of Holy Cross Retreat in Las Cruces.
The statue beautifully captures the Virgin of Guadalupe adorned in a flowing red gown with gold accents, a celestial blue mantle embellished with golden stars, and an ornate golden halo emanating from behind. She stands upon a crescent moon supported by an angel, a traditional representation symbolizing divine presence and protection. The base, painted in soft green hues with pink floral accents, enhances the visual appeal of this stunning devotional piece.
