Carolyn Bunch was a beloved figure in the Las Cruces art community, where she lived, worked, and contributed significantly to the local cultural landscape. After moving to Las Cruces in 1953, she dedicated herself to both creating art and nurturing the next generation of artists as an educator. She taught art in the Las Cruces public schools for 15 years, inspiring countless students with her passion for artistic expression.
Beyond teaching, Bunch made a lasting mark on the region by founding the Adobe Patio Gallery in nearby Mesilla in 1983. The gallery became a vital hub for local artists, offering a space to showcase their work and build connections within the community. Her own art often reflected the vibrant culture and daily life of the Borderlands, blending the influences of her studies in San Miguel de Allende with the unique charm of Southern New Mexico.
