Carolyn Bunch was a beloved figure in the Las Cruces art community, where she lived, worked, and contributed significantly to the local cultural scene. After moving to Las Cruces in 1953, she spent over 15 years teaching art in the public school system, inspiring countless students. In 1983, she founded the Adobe Patio Gallery in Mesilla, New Mexico, which became a vibrant hub for local artists and art enthusiasts.

Bunch’s artwork often reflects her time spent in San Miguel de Allende, where she studied at the Instituto Allende. Her subjects, such as the basket weaver depicted here, showcase her deep admiration for the traditions and daily lives of the people she encountered. Her pieces remain a meaningful celebration of the cultural connections between the American Southwest and Mexico.
