Description

Antique Duplex Embury Railroad Lantern, c. Early 1900s

This antique signal lantern, manufactured by the Duplex Embury Mfg. Co. of Warsaw, NY, is a fine example of early 20th-century railroad equipment. Featuring a distinctive design with both clear and red lenses, this lantern was a crucial tool for signaling and communication on the railways. The lantern is complete with its original leather strap.

The red lens was used to signal "stop" or alert of danger, while the clear lens provided visibility in low-light conditions, ensuring the safe operation of trains. Its compact yet durable design reflects the high-quality craftsmanship of the Embury Manufacturing Co., which was renowned for its reliable lanterns, as early as 1908.

This piece is a compelling artifact of American industrial history and an ideal addition to any collection of railroad memorabilia or vintage lanterns.

Condition:

Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. The metal body exhibits surface scratches and areas of wear to the finish, consistent with its age and use. Both lenses are intact and free from cracks, and the leather strap remains functional, showing signs of use.
