Description

Antique "Tiger No. 990" Hand-Crank Cast Iron Blower by Canedy-Otto, Industrial Forge Tool

This antique "Tiger No. 990" hand-crank blower, manufactured by the renowned Canedy-Otto Manufacturing Company in the early 20th century, exemplifies robust American craftsmanship. Constructed entirely of cast iron, the blower features a manually operated crank mechanism and is marked with model numbers and designations: "990," "Tiger," "886," "686," "997," and "996." A visible inscription reads, "Keep Filled with Oil to the Plug," emphasizing its practical design for industrial and blacksmithing applications.

The blower retains its original aged finish, displaying a patina that reflects decades of use. Despite finish wear and corrosion in some areas, including one missing foot, the blower cranks freely and remains a compelling piece of industrial history. Perfect as a collectible or display item for enthusiasts of vintage tools, it captures the ingenuity of early 20th-century blacksmithing technology.

Condition:

  • Fair overall condition with significant signs of use.
  • Surface wear, finish loss, and visible patina throughout.
  • Crank mechanism functions but requires oil for optimal operation.
  • Isolated corrosion has caused the loss of one foot, though the piece is otherwise stable.
  • Offered as shown in photographs.

Dimensions:

  • Overall: 43.5 x 29 x 18 inches (110.5 x 73.7 x 45.7 cm)
  • Weight: 80 lbs (36.3 kg)
