Description

Antique Mexican Retablo of St. James the Moor-Slayer

This antique Mexican retablo features a hand-painted depiction of Santiago Matamoros (St. James the Moor-Slayer), the patron saint of Spain and a revered figure in Mexican religious tradition. St. James is portrayed on horseback, adorned in a plumed helmet and vibrant red cape, holding a sword in a dynamic and triumphant pose. Crafted from wood and plaster with a shaped and scalloped frame, this wall-mountable piece highlights traditional 19th- or early 20th-century Mexican artistry.

Condition:
Fair antique condition with age-appropriate wear. The paint exhibits significant finish wear and loss throughout, with chips to the plaster, yet the piece remains structurally sound. The hanging hardware is intact for display.

Size:

  • Overall Dimensions: 25" x 17.5" x 1"

Note: A Campbell's soup can is included in the photos for scale reference.
