Description

1940s/1950s Marx Wind-Up Train Set in Oak Display Case

This nostalgic vintage "Marx" wind-up train set includes four beautifully crafted, maker-marked O-scale cars, all housed in a custom oak display case with a sliding plexiglass cover. The set comprises the following:

  1. Steam Locomotive: A classic black steam locomotive, capturing the charm of mid-century model trains, designed to lead the set.
  2. Union Pacific Coal Tender #551: A black tin lithographed tender marked "Union Pacific" and numbered 551, designed to store coal for the locomotive. Produced in the 1950s, this tender measures approximately 6 inches in length.
  3. Union Pacific Caboose #3824: A vibrant yellow caboose marked "Union Pacific" with the number 3824. This 1940s model features a classic cupola design and lithographed tin craftsmanship, also measuring approximately 6 inches in length.
  4. Seaboard Gondola Car #91257: A red tin gondola car marked "Seaboard" and numbered 91257. Produced in the 1950s, this car represents the bulk material transport vehicles of its time and measures about 6 inches in length.

The display case measures 6 1/4" H x 38" W x 3 5/8" D and includes a 36-inch track for display or functional operation.

Condition:
Good vintage condition with signs of use. Some scratches and scuffs are present on the cars and the display case. The plexiglass cover also shows scratches, and the wind-up mechanism remains untested.

This Marx O-scale train set is a fine example of mid-20th-century tin lithographed toys. The custom oak display case elevates its collectible value, making it perfect for display or a centerpiece addition to any model train collection.
