Antique Ball Aqua Glass Jar Set: 1 Quart Ball Sure Seal and Ball Ideal

This set features two iconic Ball jars from the early 20th century, both crafted in the distinctive aqua glass that is highly prized by collectors:

Ball Sure Seal Jar: Introduced in the early 1900s, the Ball Sure Seal jar was designed to provide a reliable seal for home canning. This 1-quart jar is embossed with "Sure Seal" and has the number "2" on the bottom, indicating its mold identification. It includes its original aqua-colored glass lid secured by a wire bail closure, a common feature in jars produced during this era.

Ball Ideal Jar: Patented on July 14, 1908, the Ball Ideal jar was a significant innovation in food preservation. This 1-quart jar bears the patent date on its front and features a clear glass lid with a wire bail closure. Additional markings include "55 S" on the top rim and "7" on the bottom, which are likely mold and batch identifiers.

Condition:

  • Ball Sure Seal Jar: Fair condition with signs of use, including a 3/8-inch chip on the rim and a 1 1/8-inch piece missing from the lid.
  • Ball Ideal Jar: Good condition, with minimal signs of wear and no visible chips or cracks.

Dimensions:

  • Each Jar: 1 Quart, 7.25 inches tall, 3.5 inches in diameter

These jars are excellent examples of Ball's contributions to home canning technology in the early 20th century. Their unique features and historical significance make them valuable additions to any collection of vintage kitchenware or Americana.
