Description

Frankoma Republican Elephant Mugs (1970, 1982, 1983, 1984)

This set of four Frankoma Republican Elephant Mugs, representing the years 1970, 1982, 1983, and 1984, offers collectors a remarkable glimpse into pivotal moments of GOP history. Each mug is marked "GOP" with the signature Frankoma US Pat D215-868 maker’s mark, making them highly collectible pieces. These mugs come from the personal collection of State Representative Candidate Kimberly Skaggs and will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The 1970 midterm elections took place during Richard Nixon's first term, a time when the Republican Party faced challenges but continued to shape national policy. Fast forward to the early 1980s, and Ronald Reagan’s administration led the nation through significant economic changes, with 1982 being marked by midterm losses, and 1983 showing early signs of economic recovery. The culmination of this period came in 1984 when Reagan secured a historic landslide victory, defining the GOP’s conservative principles for years to come.

Condition: Good, no damage, chips, or cracks. Some crazing typical of Frankoma pottery from this era.

Size: Each mug stands 4" in height.

This set is a fine addition for collectors of political memorabilia and Frankoma pottery, capturing the Republican Party’s evolution during the Nixon and Reagan eras.
