Hubley Cast Iron No. 8 Racer — 1930s Original Red Paint Streamliner, 7”
Rev up the nostalgia with this genuine 1930s Hubley Cast Iron No. 8 Racer, a streamlined beauty from the golden age of American toy making. Cast in two solid halves of iron and finished in its original red paint, this early race car embodies the optimism and speed obsession of the pre-war era. Note the boat-tail rear fins, cross-hatched grille, and embossed racing number “8” — classic design cues borrowed from real Grand Prix cars that captured the public’s imagination. The seated driver figure, cast right into the body, adds a dynamic touch that feels ready to speed off the shelf.
Hubley Manufacturing Co. of Lancaster, Pennsylvania was among the pioneers of high-quality cast-iron toys, known for their precision molds and durable finishes. This model, roughly 7 inches long, was part of their racing series that thrilled children (and quietly converted adults) during the early motor age.
Condition:
Displays expected finish wear and surface oxidation consistent with age and use. The original red and white paint remains visible with appealing patina. Axles and wheels are absent, and the car shows scattered age-related pitting and oxidation, yet the form remains strong and visually compelling. Sold as found, for display or restoration.
Dimensions:
Approx. 2” H x 7” L x 2 5/8” W
Weight: 1 lb
