Arcade (attr.) Cast Iron “Red Baby” Dump Truck — Stamped 128, 1920s
A rugged survivor from America’s early toy age — this cast iron dump truck, stamped “128”, is attributed to the Arcade Manufacturing Company of Freeport, Illinois, makers of some of the finest cast iron toys of the 1920s and 1930s. Arcade was renowned for transforming real vehicles into miniature marvels, and this model echoes the International Harvester “Red Baby” trucks that inspired it.
This hefty 10.75-inch toy features a C-cab design, arched open fenders, and a working tilting dump bed—an engineering feat of its time, operated by a side-mounted lever. Traces of the original red and black enamel paint remain, hinting at its once-vibrant presence on a child’s playroom floor nearly a century ago.
Dimensions:
Overall: 3.75" H × 10.75" L × 3.5" W
Weight: 53 oz
Condition
Fair overall, showing age-consistent wear. Wheels are absent, and there are signs of prior restoration and surface oxidation throughout. Finish shows notable paint loss, with areas of exposed metal. The dump bed remains fully functional, and the structure is solid and stable. Displays beautifully with authentic vintage character.
