Pair of Early Cast Iron Stake-Bed Toy Trucks, Stamped “1451,” c.1920s
Rugged. Simple. Honest. These two small cast iron stake-bed trucks carry nearly a century of American play history in their worn yellow paint. Each features an open C-cab, slatted bed, and spoked wheels—designs inspired by the real workhorses of 1920s farm and delivery life. Both pieces are solid cast iron, assembled with tab-and-slot construction typical of the era’s toy foundries.
The underside bears the stamped number “1451” (not a visible maker’s mark but a mold code used by many early shops). While several makers—A.C. Williams, Hubley, and Arcade—produced nearly identical trucks, the exact origin of this pair remains part of their mystery.
Dimensions
Each measures 2.65" H × 2.1" W × 5.15" L
Weights: 11.2 oz and 12.5 oz
Condition
Fair, with age-appropriate surface wear and oxidation throughout. Paint loss consistent with years of play and storage; one truck missing a wheel. Both remain stable, displayable, and full of authentic patina—the kind that only time can create.
