Hubley Cast Iron Fire Pumper No. 2254 — 1930s Toy Classic
Step back into the roaring 1930s with this original Hubley cast iron fire pumper, model No. 2254. Cast in solid metal and painted a bold firehouse red, this compact workhorse once raced across kitchen floors and parlor rugs in an era when imagination was the only motor needed. Designed with a boiler-style pump housing and twin domes in silvery nickel finish, it perfectly captures the excitement of early American firefighting.
The underside bears authentic Hubley production markings — “2 2254 18 2163” — aligning with documented examples from the company’s Lancaster, Pennsylvania foundry. Once fitted with a separate cast grille and white rubber tires on wooden hubs, this example now shows the honest scars of childhood adventure: the wheels and grille are gone, but the charm remains intact.
Condition:
Fair vintage condition. Exhibits age-appropriate paint loss, finish wear, and oxidation from decades of use. Front grille and wheels are absent; structure remains sturdy and displays beautifully as shown.
Dimensions:
2 ½ in. (H) × 2 ⅜ in. (W) × 6 ⅜ in. (L)
Weight: 15.4 oz
