Auburn Rubber Convertible Toy Car — Made in USA, c.1940s
Step back to postwar America with this bright red Auburn Rubber convertible, a classic piece of mid-century Americana! Stamped “47 Auburn, Inc / Made in USA,” this durable hard-rubber roadster was produced in the late 1940s–early 1950s, when Auburn’s Indiana factory was turning out some of the most beloved toy cars of the era.
Cast in sturdy rubber with a cheerful red finish and silver accents on the grille and bumpers, this open-top two-seater captures the optimism of the time—when style was bold, and even toy cars looked ready for a Sunday drive. Its simple lines and molded steering detail reflect Auburn’s distinctive blend of realism and charm.
Condition
In good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear from play and time. Surface scuffs, paint fading, and minor scratches throughout; axles show light oxidation. Wheels roll, structure is sound, and the color still pops nicely. Displays beautifully as an authentic survivor of America’s early toy era.
Dimensions
Overall: 1.2" H × 1.9" W × 4.6" L
Weight: 2.7 oz
Collector’s Note
The Auburn Rubber Company began producing toy vehicles in the 1930s, switching from rubber tires to full rubber bodies when metal became scarce during WWII. By the late 1940s, their cars—like this convertible—had become household favorites across America.
