Description

1939 DuPont No. 6 Blasting Caps Box – 100 Count, Groundhog Mine, Vanadium, NM (Inert)

This is a vintage DuPont No. 6 Blasting Caps Mining box, originally produced by E.I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company out of Wilmington, Delaware. This box contains no explosives and is completely inert, making it a perfect collectible for enthusiasts of mining and industrial memorabilia. It was sourced from the Groundhog Mine in Vanadium, New Mexico, dated 1939, adding to its historical significance in American mining history.

DuPont was a leading manufacturer of industrial explosives, including dynamite and blasting caps, during the 19th and 20th centuries. Their blasting caps were used in mining operations, including those in the Southwestern U.S., where mining for vanadium, copper, and other minerals was integral to the region’s economy. The Groundhog Mine is noted for its production of vanadium, a critical element in strengthening steel, making this piece a valuable historical artifact from the early mining efforts in New Mexico.

The box is in good condition, with bold red and white graphics showcasing DuPont’s logo and essential handling instructions. These instructions emphasize the dangerous nature of the caps and proper safety precautions, adding to the box's authentic and industrial charm. Collectors will appreciate the connection to a significant period in American mining history, especially with its detailed provenance from New Mexico.
