Art Deco Elgin Sterling Silver Compact Purse, C. 1920-1940
A stunning example of Art Deco craftsmanship, this sterling silver compact purse was handmade by Elgin, a renowned maker of vanity compacts since 1919. Dating back to the 1920-1940 period, this unisex compact purse combines elegance with practicality. The front face features intricate chased linear details, typical of the Art Deco aesthetic, with space available for a monogram if desired. Inside, the compact opens via a hinge to reveal a well-designed interior, complete with its original mirror. The main compartment likely held facial powder, while two spring-loaded coin holders offer space for securely storing change. The opposite side includes a functional money clip, allowing for convenient access to currency. The fancy link chain offers a stylish and secure way to carry the compact.
The inside markings include "E.A.M" pierced by an arrow, along with "1086332 332" and "Made in U.S.A." Tested and guaranteed sterling silver.
