About the Artist:
Dale F. Burlison De Armond, born on July 2, 1914, in Dickinson, North Dakota, was an artist whose lineage was steeped in creativity and craftsmanship. Raised in a family with a rich tradition of artistry on her father's side, Burlison's early years were marked by moves across the Midwest before settling in Tacoma, Washington. It was there that she cultivated her artistic talents, eventually marrying Robert Neil DeArmond and embarking on a journey that would see her contributions to the art world flourish across Alaska.

Burlison’s artistic journey truly began in 1949 when she created her first printed illustration for the Sitka Printing Company. Her work spanned various mediums, but it wasn’t until she discovered woodcutting in 1960 that she found her true artistic calling. Under the tutelage of Wisconsin artist Danny Pierce, she embraced woodcuts with fervor, abandoning oil painting entirely. Burlison's travels to France in 1975 further expanded her repertoire, leading to the creation of stone lithograph prints. However, it was wood engraving that became her favored medium until her retirement from printmaking in 1999.

Throughout her career, Burlison’s art was characterized by a deep exploration of form and technique, reflecting her evolving mastery over different mediums. Her legacy is preserved in the unique prints and engravings that continue to resonate with art enthusiasts, showcasing her dedication to her craft and her relentless pursuit of artistic excellence.
