About the Artist:
Robert H. Evans was a talented artist and dedicated educator known for his distinctive rural landscape paintings on natural rock slabs. Born in Albuquerque in 1942, he graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in education and a minor in theater arts. His teaching career spanned over 30 years, primarily as a beloved fourth-grade teacher in Bloomfield, New Mexico. Renowned for his engaging storytelling and unique teaching style, Robert left a lasting impact on his students across New Mexico and Southern Colorado.
As a "Rock Artist," Robert's work captured the essence of ghost towns and old ranches, skillfully blending his scenes into the natural grains and colors of his chosen stone canvases. Inspired by a workshop with New Mexico artist Peter Hurd, he began painting in the early 1970s, creating iconic pieces that reflected his love for rural landscapes. Even after retiring from teaching, Robert continued to share his passion, leading art clinics, selling his work at local markets, and connecting with the community. His legacy lives on through his art and the countless lives he touched with his creativity, humor, and generous spirit.
