Wiley Russell Blacksmith Traveler
Travellers were measuring tools used by blacksmiths and wheelwrights to measure the iron tire for wagon wheels. The blacksmith rolled the traveller around the circumference of the wooden wheel, and the number of revolutions measured the length to cut the iron stock. Each revolution of the wheel measures 24”, and a movable pointer could be positioned to mark a partial revolution of the wheel. One side is marked Wiley Russell Mfg Co. Greenfield Mass, and the reverse is marked in 1/8” increments. Wiley Russell was in business from 1872 – 1912.
Condition:
Good
The wheel and pointer move freely. Iron surface is pitted from age.
