Folk Art Adirondack Twig Magazine Holder
- Wrought Iron Handle
An exceptionally nicely made example of vintage American Adirondack twig art. Possibly from the 1940s, or earlier. Made entirely of wood, wooden twigs, branches, vines, and old metal nails. On one side, it has a very intricate design made of coiled and braided vines, all held in place with tiny nails. The other side of the holder has a lovely single bird made completely of twigs, sitting on a branch. The ends and edges of the box also feature braided vines and twigs, each painstakingly nailed in place.
The maker of this holder was both skilled and patient; very few Adirondack folk art pieces include this level of fine detail. The magazine holder has a solid wooden board for a base, and two feet made of weathered wood cut into a roughly scalloped pattern. These antique Adirondack pieces made of tiny twigs are very fragile by nature. The original (probably bent wood) central handle was lost long ago and has been replaced with a handmade twisted iron handle, attached with two slot head screws.
Condition:
Good, No Damage, Minor Twig Damage on One Side
Some of the braided trim on the edges and one end is missing. There is damage to the lower corner of one end of the box.
Despite these losses, it still displays beautifully as a fine example of American folk art, created with care.

15" X 11" X 14"
