Vintage Handmade Pine Needle Handbags
- Pair of Needle Handbags
Pine needle and raffia basketry are often associated with Native Americans, but they are also popular folk crafts enjoyed by non-natives in the southern US states. Pine needle purses and trays were trendy in the 50s and 60s. This tall handbag is intricately made of pine needles and raffia with a gold silky fabric lining. The lining has an interior pocket and closes with a wooden button and raffia loop. Six metal feet have been attached to the wooden bottom. It could be carried as a purse, but it would also be pretty hung on the wall with some dried flowers inside the opening.
The Oval-shaped handmade vintage pine needle and raffia purse. Likely not produced by Native Americans, but more likely made in during the 50s and 60s when pine needle basketry was popular as a folk craft in the southern US. Silky gathered fabric lining, wooden bottom and four metal feet. Very intricate work, with a raffia braid handle. Despite its age, it displays nicely on a shelf or hung from a peg rack on the wall.
