Bandai Japan Tin Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud – “Sign of Quality,” ca. 1950s, 11.25"
From the golden age of postwar Japanese tin toys comes this elegant Bandai tinplate Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, a finely crafted tribute to British luxury motoring. Produced in Japan during the late 1950s to early 1960s, this large friction sedan bears the maker’s mark “Sign of Quality / B in box / Made in Japan” embossed on the base — the trademark of Bandai, one of Japan’s most renowned toy manufacturers.
Finished in a handsome two-tone steel blue and cream, the car features a steel body, lithographed interior seating, plated grille and bumpers, and embossed “Silver Cloud / Rolls-Royce” rear panel. Measuring an impressive 11.25 inches in length, it captures the grandeur of the Silver Cloud with the playful charm of Japanese craftsmanship — a fusion of East and West that defined the era’s export toy market.
Condition:
Good to fair condition, showing age-appropriate wear throughout. Paint displays scattered chips, oxidation, and patina consistent with play and age. One wheel is absent, and one hubcap is missing. Despite these issues, the model remains structurally sound with vivid color and clear embossed markings. A charming survivor with authentic vintage presence.
