Description

Arcade Cast Iron 106R Coupe with Opening Rumble Seat – Restored Light Blue

Step back to the early days of motoring with this delightful Arcade Manufacturing Co. cast iron coupe, model 106R, made in Freeport, Illinois around 1928–1932. Designed to echo the look of Ford’s Model A, this charming two-door coupe embodies the solid craftsmanship and whimsical spirit that made Arcade the gold standard of American cast-iron toys.

Finished in light blue enamel with nickel-plated spoked wheels, the car features an opening rumble seat—a playful, mechanical touch that gave these early toys personality and realism. The underside bears bold raised lettering: “ARCADE / FREEPORT ILL / 106 R / V3 / 106 SL,” indicating authentic Arcade mold and part identifiers. At 6½ inches long, it’s the large-format version that collectors prize for its satisfying heft and sculptural form.

Condition
Good overall, appears to have been professionally restored. The light blue finish shows minor scuffing and edge wear consistent with display. Surfaces remain glossy, with crisp detail to the casting. Opening rumble seat functions smoothly. No cracks or structural damage observed. Comes exactly as shown.

Collector’s Note
Arcade of Freeport, Illinois, was among the first American manufacturers to perfect die-cast and sand-cast toy vehicles. Their 106 series coupes—with real working rumble seats and bright enamel finishes—were marketed as “toys just like Dad’s car.”
