Description

1924 Arcade Cast Iron “Stop” Chauffeur Coupe – Restored, 10”, Removable Driver

In the mid-1920s, when automobiles were transforming from luxury to lifestyle, Arcade Manufacturing of Freeport, Illinois, was capturing the magic of the open road in cast iron. Their “Stop” coupe, introduced around 1924, wasn’t just a toy — it was a mechanical echo of a new American dream: freedom, style, and a little bit of swagger behind the wheel.

This example, freshly restored in a lively teal and black enamel with gold pinstriping, shows the timeless silhouette of a chauffeur-driven town car — right down to its removable driver with red cap and steady hands on the wheel. The “STOP 1924” marking on the rear spare is more than decorative; it nods to the very year the first standardized stop signs appeared across U.S. roads. Arcade’s designers had a keen sense of the times — and a knack for turning them into toys with personality.

The car’s proportions, weight, and detailed casting are unmistakably Arcade: a balance of sturdiness and elegance that’s as collectible now as it was coveted then.

Condition
Good overall. Appears to have undergone a professional restoration, with smooth enamel paint, crisp detailing, and light wear at edges. The removable driver fits securely, and the wheels roll freely. No cracks or structural damage observed.

Dimensions
10” L × 4.5” H × 4” W
Weight: 3 lb 7 oz

Collector’s Note
Arcade’s removable driver cars are among the most sought-after early automotive toys. Each figure was individually cast and hand-painted, designed to fit snugly inside the cabin — a mechanical touch that elevated these cars above simpler Hubley and Kenton models of the time.
