1930s Girard Deluxe Pressed Steel Coupe — Wind-Up, Balloon Tires, 14½"
Step back into the golden age of American toy making with this circa 1932 Girard Deluxe Coupe, a striking example of early pressed-steel craftsmanship and mechanical ingenuity. Finished in classic two-tone orange and cream, this coupe captures the elegant automotive styling of its era — with louvered hood panels, sweeping fenders, and gleaming metal headlights that once illuminated via a built-in battery circuit.
Powered by a wind-up motor, the car still winds and moves, showing off its solid mechanical build nearly a century later. The “Girard Balloon” rubber tires and undercarriage-mounted bell add authentic charm, while the graceful proportions and heavy-gauge steel construction reveal why Girard toys rivaled those of Marx and Wyandotte during the early 1930s.
Condition
In good condition for its age, showing wear to paint and oxidation consistent with use and display. Lights do not turn on and paint appears to have been reapplied at some point. Wind-up mechanism tested and functional; the car moves when wound. Tires and structure are intact, with some dents and edge wear noted.
