Antique Cast Iron Horse-Drawn Wagon – Arcade or Kenton Style, “Made in USA”
A wonderful survivor from the golden age of American cast iron toys! This two-horse wagon features a boldly painted green body, red spoked wheels, and black and cream draft horses in full gilt harness. Each horse rolls on small cast wheels, a charming detail typical of early Kenton and Arcade manufacturing. The “MADE IN U.S.A.” mark with foundry numbers 2 and 5 appears on the underside — a signature of quality midwestern toy makers from the 1930s–1940s, when these rugged farm wagons ruled the playroom.
The wagon’s crisp panel lines, pivoting front axle, and metal chain traces are all hallmarks of Arcade Manufacturing Co. of Freeport, Illinois, though Kenton Hardware of Ohio produced strikingly similar models under its 5 Ton Farm Wagon line. This example may have once included a seated driver — a common feature now missing on many authentic survivors.
Condition:
Good condition overall with age-appropriate wear. Original paint remains bright with scattered chips, small areas of loss, and expected surface rubbing. Wheels roll freely; hitch assembly and chains intact. Minor oxidation on metal joints consistent with age.
