Arcade Cast Iron Coupe #109 with Rumble Seat — Made in USA, c.1928–1932
Step back to the golden age of American toy making with this Arcade Manufacturing Co. #109 cast iron coupe, crafted in Freeport, Illinois, between 1928 and 1932. Marked on the base “C-109-R” and “C--109-L” with the proud stamp “Made in U.S.A.”, this sturdy little automobile embodies the precision and imagination of early 20th-century industrial design.
Rendered in solid cast iron, the coupe features a working rumble seat—a nod to the luxury sport coupes of its day—and displays delicate period details including ribbed hood panels, split windshield, and arched fenders. Traces of its original turquoise-green and red paint still cling to the surface, blending naturally with the rich, aged patina that collectors prize. The model’s weight, mechanical authenticity, and craftsmanship reflect why Arcade was considered the “Toys That Last” company of its era.
Condition
Good condition overall, showing age-appropriate wear consistent with use and display. Areas of oxidation and paint loss contribute to its appealing vintage character. Tires show wear with indiscernible markings; one rear wheel appears to be an older replacement. The rumble seat opens and closes smoothly. Offered as shown.
