Hubley Cast Iron Coupe Toy Car, c.1920s — Marked “Made in USA”
A charming survivor from America’s golden age of cast-iron toys, this Hubley-style coupe captures the spirit of the 1920s automobile boom in miniature. Cast in solid iron and finished in original red paint, it displays the flowing fenders, ribbed hood, and rumble-seat profile of the era’s fashionable coupes. The nickel-plated spoked wheels turn freely, and the underside bears mold markings “C-109-R” and “C-109-L” along with “MADE IN USA.”
While this example does not bear the raised “Hubley” brand name, these C-series mold numbers, wheel style, and body proportions correspond precisely to Hubley’s small 6-inch “solid” coupe models produced in Lancaster, Pennsylvania during the late 1920s–1930s. These numeric identifiers were often used internally by Hubley and appear on other confirmed examples from the same production line.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with expected use wear. Paint appears original, showing even chipping, oxidation, and age patina consistent with early cast iron toys. Wheels and axles roll freely; structure remains solid with no visible cracks. Underside markings remain legible.
