Antique Schieble Hill Climber Toy Car, Pressed Steel, 1920s
This impressive antique pressed steel toy car is attributed to the Schieble Toy & Novelty Co. of Dayton, Ohio, best known for their innovative “Hill Climber” friction-drive toys produced in the early 20th century. Measuring a substantial 17.5 inches long, this coupe-form automobile reflects the bold proportions and streamlined styling of American cars from the 1920s.
Finished in original red paint with green fenders and a mustard-yellow roof, the car features a slotted grille, arched fenders, molded door detailing, open windows, and solid steel disc wheels. The underside houses a working friction/flywheel mechanism—an exciting feature in its day that allowed the car to surge forward after a short push. Tested and fully functional, it remains an excellent example of early mechanical toy ingenuity.
Condition
Good, with signs of use and age-appropriate wear. The paint appears original, with visible wear that enhances its vintage character. Tested and fully functional. Comes as shown.
