Arcade Coupe Cast Iron Toy Car with Driver – Original Paint, 1920s
Produced by Arcade Manufacturing Co. of Freeport, Illinois, this solid cast iron toy automobile dates to the 1920s, a golden age of American toy making. Arcade was known for producing rugged, realistic vehicles meant to withstand real play, and this example is a classic representation of their work. The car features a closed-body design inspired by period automobiles, finished in black paint with cream-colored wheels and a seated cast metal driver figure.
The underside is clearly marked “Arcade MFG Co.” along with “Zs” and “S4,” markings believed to relate to factory mold or pattern identification rather than retail model numbers. Details such as molded fenders, hood vents, and open windows reflect the straightforward yet charming design language of early 20th-century toys. With its original paint, intact driver, and honest wear, this piece offers both visual appeal and historical authenticity—an excellent addition to any collection of cast iron toys, Arcade memorabilia, or early automobilia.
Condition
In good condition, showing signs of use and age-appropriate wear. The paint appears original, with scattered paint loss, surface wear, and minor oxidation that add to its antique character. No cracks or repairs observed. Wheels turn freely, and the driver figure remains intact. Comes exactly as shown in photos.
